Sun streamed through the window but a thick frost lay heavy on the ground.

In the basket sat a load of washing.

The night before he proudly told his family that tomorrow, "Tomorrow will be the day!". The forecast seemed good, the machine had been put on timer.

But that frost.

And that lack of wind.

An angel letting polly out of the bag during a lengthy sermon would create a bigger breeze.

To suffer the shame of the tumble dryer or to hang regardless?

They laughed, the birds, they laughed.

It amused them so to watch the man pegging out his damp raiments.

Then the man reminded them who it was that filled their feeders.

The feeders that were yet to be filled this chilly day.

They laughed no more.
