@chrisamaphone @samth @adrian @palvaro this slaps, I agree with Peter’s comment for what little it works, and also is there any evidence that panels have been restarted following the memo’s rescindance? Last I heard the NSF was directed to ignore the restraining order and stay shut down.

@simrob @chrisamaphone @samth @adrian @palvaro panels haven’t restarted AFAIK (and I am supposed to sit in one canceled this week) and I expect it will take a while for the PMs to come out of this state of chaos :-( which will delay even further an already super slow process :-(

@xanovsky @chrisamaphone @samth @adrian @palvaro that definitely means to me that the shutdown is ongoing, and has no definitive end point given an undefined and unacceptable “comprehensive review of our projects, programs and activities to be compliant with the existing executive orders” apparently being conducted.

The freeze is not merely “not over” subject to future White House action, it appears to be fully ongoing despite a court order to the contrary!

@samth we don’t disagree, but fighting executive orders is less helpful when the NSF director is doing the complying-in-advance thing and interpreting orders in a maximally disruptive manner for, y’know, national science

(And I’m just a simple country logician and not a lawyer, but also apparently going against court orders in extending the shutdown pending ideological review of every grant?)

@simrob right I agree that the director is not doing right by science or the NSF. But I think the court order is only about paying existing grants, not pausing programs/reviews.

1. your reading seems inconsistent the director saying that PIs should be “ceasing all non-compliant grant and award activities” in the archived link, which I think matches the current page

2. do you have evidence that the NSF is complying with the court order for existing grants? that would be good news but color me skeptical
