@schratze Ok, all i'd like is this:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a0/Bundesarchiv_Bild_146-1993-051-07%2C_Tafel_mit_KZ-Kennzeichen_%28Winkel%29_retouched.jpg

It can be as rough as you need to it to be. Am not expecting a pro job or anything, I just want to better understand the symbology and have a handy reference card

@BigTittyBimbo okay, sounds doable! Have you seen the table here? It has pretty much all the needed information

@BigTittyBimbo lmao don't beat yourself up over it, the German and English wikipedia are both structured very weird around these topics

@BigTittyBimbo yeah it's like. I had this in school several times and I went to museums and memorials that explained it. But apparently nobody in the English speaking world has ever heard of it. Some of them think Auschwitz was the only concentration camp, the only victims were Jews and all of them were killed in gas chambers. It's a level of ignorance about the whole thing that borders on denialism.

Thanks for spreading information about this.

@schratze i really think a lot of it is ignorance of the 50s and 60s right wing thinking "we'll never go that far". Kinda like how people say General Eisenhower saw Gypsies and Jews as mongrel people, respected the germans, thought america shoild of fought the USSR instead, but couldnt of been a nazi!

@BigTittyBimbo @schratze

when you see how many actual nazis were supreme commander of NATO in that era (look it up if you havent, i'm talking literal german nazi generals, not just western reactionaries or "so-called nazis"), the explanation is much more in the vein of "we militaristic authoritarians love nazi shit because we are nazis, but gosh we really don't like the optics of seeing photos of the victims of nazi genocide in newspapers"

@emptywentz @schratze oh yeah, am fully aware, denazification in germany is a bit of a running joke in my friend group because of this. And much of the stories sold to the americans about how much the generals knew about fighting soviets was grossly misrepresented and in many cases complete fabrications. It's as if the americans did the complete opposite of when they de-saddamed iraq.

@BigTittyBimbo @schratze

yeah denazification in post-ww2 germany is a flat out joke, it sucks that the vast majority of people don't understand at all how we got from then to where we are today

i am perhaps a little too quick with extra info when i havent been asked (transplaining perhaps? lmfaooo). in meatspace convos autism is a blessing as i tend to just say this type of shit and look expectantly at folks. though i make very little eye contact so i usually end up looking expectantly at people's left shoulder.

people say they find me intimidating because i'm "so confrontational" and always tossing out facts that go beyond the "average" person's understanding of the subject at hand. probably doesnt help that i'm incredibly dismissive of people who think i'm a know-it-all. i'm like, what better compliment than someone who thinks i know too much lmaooo. it's even better when they try to slag me off and i get a bit of thousand yard kubrick stare going.

but i do keep forgetting that most of my mutuals on here actually know a good deal
