Hey fellow #selfhosting nerds, I’m thinking about dropping my Office 365 subscription. I’m not concerned about the apps (Word, Excel, etc). Does it make sense to host my own email on a cheap VPS vs pay Microsoft for hosted Exchange service?

I used to host a million years ago with courier imap and exim and spam assassin, but so much has changed wrt email since then. Is exim still the “standard” or has everyone moved to postfix? What’s a good IMAP server that supports Maildir?

@stephen been #selfhosting forever and still amavis, spamkiller, postfix and dovecot. DMARC and more over the last few years but doable. Nextcloud is also your friend.
