@joe Why is it cool?

@rasterweb Since the death of Concord, there has been a focus on cheaper airfare to help democratize travel, which is good. As the saying goes, "Conservatives don't get passports." The only "I never thought I would see that!"-level developments are in space / near-space travel, and the average person isn't going to come up with $5mil for 4 hours in space. Meanwhile, towards the end, Concord seats were the same price as business class seats. That's affordable, and going supersonic would be neat.

@rasterweb ... It has its issues (the level of emissions, for instance), but I like the idea of experimenting with different modes of transportation. If I could fly supersonic somewhere, I wouldn't mind doing it once in my life.

@joe I'm also a fan of intermodal transport and would love to see some GODDAMN HIGH SPEED TRAINS in the US. 😅

@rasterweb I completely agree. As I travel through the free world, I question why we can't have high-speed rail in Wisconsin. However, the two don't have to be mutually exclusive. I want a train that can get me to Madison to see my brother, a tram to get me from UWM to Miller Park, and maybe someday, a plane that could get me from Chicago to London in 3 hours. I think that would be really cool.

@rasterweb ... In 2018, I took the Shanghai Maglev from the outskirts of Pudong to Shanghai Pudong International Airport and back. It reached a top speed of 268 mph (for about 30 seconds) on an 18.6-mile track, and it was incredibly impractical. Still, I liked it, though. 🙂

@joe I took the train from Milwaukee to Minneapolis last summer and it took longer than driving. Like an extra hour plus due to the slow speed and some delays. Imagine if it could be even just half the time of driving. Milwaukee to Minneapolis in about 3 hours would be amazing.
