One of the worst parts about delving into, I don't know what to call it, "community fiction?" Truly "self-published" fiction? Fan fiction but more than just fan derived works.
Anyway, the amount of times I discover a story, start reading, and then realize that the author just decided to axe it 90% of the way through is like, oof.
Between this and cancelled tv shows and everything else I've ingested way more half-stories that completed stories. I hate that starting something new feels like a risk.

This is not a real problem, obviously. I just hit another wall and turns out the author got bored and that's just the end of it.

At least with AO3 I can search restrict to completed works only. But like, forum posts where people post chapter by chapter it's just out there like in the wind. Trying to glance at comments through one squinted eye to see if the last published chapter is the end without spoiling the whole thing for me.
