When did people start lowering their standards when it comes to watching other people play and enjoy games as they should and have their own experiences with games before trying to force this toxic mentality of "You're not playing my favorite game how I want you to play!"

Can we just like fucking stop doing this shit? Let people play and enjoy things however they want, there is no "standard" to enjoying games for the first-time plays. These are the kind of behaviours that should earn people Channel Bans if they engage in the community like this, and it doesn't matter if you're a long-time fan of channels, this kind of toxic behavior should and will get you banned, and we shouldn't be allowing that kind of behavior mentality to breed.

And don't be that fucking person who goes in to spoil it for others when it's their first-time playing, just because you've played it yourself or watched someone else play it first, doesn't mean all these other people have played and experienced it in the same way as you have, everyone's experiences are different, stop tainting other people's experiences with your own.

@Alkaris I don't know if it started with Undertale, but that game really seemed to attract a fandom that got furious about how other people where playing the game.

I don't know what it is about Undertale specifically that does it, but the kind of game I see have the most frustrating audience interaction are games with a strong mystery component, cus people can't keep their mouth shut, and I do think Undertale/Deltarune qualifies as games with a mystery component, certainly there are little easter eggs and lore tidbits you can find if you're dedicated.

@Owlor It really did start with Undertale, because even Markiplier got flak from wy back when for "not playing" to the standards of someone else, because everyone was forcing this expectation to play the game a certain way that everybody else or themselves have played.

It's really shitty behavior that should be stomped out when it arrives. These are the kinds of people I'd happily ban if they're trying and forcing an expectation of how something should be experienced and played that nobody else has before, because certain people will simply just not play these kinds of games, or will play privately in their own time because of these people, and that's just not OKAY.

@Owlor @Alkaris Undertale fandom seems to be uniquely toxic, and it soured me on the franchise pretty much immediately.

Game's probably fine, I just don't like sifting though flack when I get stuck and reach out for help.

@growlph It is not uniquely toxic.

Like I said, I've observed similar issues in fandoms for games with a strong mystery component, any time there's a trick to it you get a game that's pretty unfriendly to stream cus so many people feel pretty full of themselves for knowing the trick, and more than a little judgmental that you're somehow not aware of it on your first playthrough.

I am a little sick of people blaming the Undertale fandom for something that is by no means unique to it and has more to do with human nature + a critical mass of people.

@Owlor It might be more fair to say it was uniquely toxic in my gaming experience, which is admittedly pretty limited, but I'd never bounced off a community in quite this way before.
