I recently saw @pluralistic write about "the Zuckermuskian media" and I thought about how most of us are lucky if we get to coin just one successful neologism in our lifetime and to this guy it's just "Tuesday".

@thriveth @pluralistic Just for fun, Cory, could you use “slopware” in an article? I think it’s a fine dysphemism for today’s “generative” (read: plagiarative) AI.

That's a pretty good one.

I think what makes Doctorow's neologisms work well though is not the words themselves: it's when you supply people with a fitting symbol for a thing that they've felt but struggled to articulate with the language presently available.

@FullyAutomatedRPG @thriveth @pluralistic Good point. I suppose "plagiarative AI" is closer to that criterion, for anyone who's experienced their work being nonconsensually algorithmically appropriated.
