@ash The big question is if you're getting one that works with iOS. I'm currently wondering if that's a thing I should get… but I can only seem to find one that's both USB-C and iOS compatible?

@stevemarshall I am planning on it, yes. Going to take a gamble on Aliexpress

@ash @stevemarshall There aren't any decent ones compatible with iOS and Android because Apple.
The best option is to buy the lightning version and then use a lightning -> USB-C adapter, and iOS is happy. Yes I know.

@jonty @ash @stevemarshall that’s not always the case. I have a Topton(?) lightning one for my old phone, then got an upgrade to a USB-C model and now the IR camera doesn’t work. It has to be certified by Apple for USB-C.

@boffbowsh @ash @stevemarshall Can't parse: As in, you have the lightning model and are using a lightning to USB-C adapter, and it's not working?
Context for this is that this is true for the Infiray cameras, and nearly all of the other decent ones are using the Infiray chipset and the apps are interchangable.
The certification for USB-C is true for actual USB-C devices, but that isn't true for lightning devices connected over USB-C (because, well, obviously).

@jonty @ash @stevemarshall well I didn’t bother with actually trying the adapter as the internet says it simply won’t work for my model. My point was: do your research before buying a lightning camera and adapter for a USB-C iPhone and assuming it’ll just work.

@boffbowsh @ash @stevemarshall Are you sure? Topdon actually sell a lightning -> USB-C adapter for exactly this purpose: https://eu.topdon.com/products/type-c-cable-for-tc002

@jonty @ash @stevemarshall oh nice! I looked everywhere for that. Obviously not hard enough though. Thanks!

@jonty @ash I take it the “decent” qualifier is what excludes https://eu.topdon.com/products/tc002c and https://www.thermal.com/seek-nano.html? (All of which are iOS compatible and USB-C.)
