lemmy.world app when?
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from fxomt@lemm.ee
Does the default lemmy web interface support use as a progressive web app?
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from Cris_Color@lemmy.world
I think one of the various interface options does, but you can just use one of the multitude of third party apps available as well.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from BarbecueCowboy@lemmy.world
Not sure. I was just referencing that lemmy.world is an app in the picture lol
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from fxomt@lemm.ee
I know Voyager does.

If you zoom in on the image, you can see a faint gray square inside of the Lemmy app icon. That means it’s a web app on iPhone.
Open the webpage in Safari > tap share > tap add to home screen

I didn’t know that, thanks. I still think it’s a little weird over just using something with the standard Lemmy icon, but it’s a great image eitherway (lacking apps though)

Voyager should be on there.

I prefer jerboa

That’s what I use but it’s just one of the several way to access Lemmy which is the first app shown.

Nope. Preference should not be made.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from fmstrat@lemmy.nowsci.com
Maybe. But it’s probably more important to start with Lemmy than which app to use.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from Serinus@lemmy.world
Please explain why.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from Mac@mander.xyz
When I first joined Lemmy, it was not easy to find my way around. I left Reddit because they screwed over 3rd party apps, so finding Voyager early on was a blessing. I just want people to be aware that there is an easier way to navigate Lemmy, and they update regularly.

Boost is best. Only thing that doesn’t work great is spoiler markdown, otherwise it’s great

loops doesnt federate. why is it there?
no mbin (interstellar)?
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com
My understanding is that it will when it’s more strange and that the dev did the same thing with Pixelfed.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from neon_nova@lemmy.dbzer0.com
im a big fan of not marketing your product until it can do the things you intend. theyve been spamming loops everywhere for over 6 months.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com
It’s also very featureless. Basically videos, comments, likes. I’m on it, and I’ve opened it maybe 6x in 2 weeks? I also think it’s just an open feed; all the videos posted in chronological order (but I could be wrong here). Idk if this goes against the Fediverse creed to have an algorithm-fed feed, but I think part of the nature of these short form, endless-scrolling apps is finding vids about your interests from new places.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from CMLVI@lemmy.world
I think we should ultimately support algorithm feeds, but they should be free and open algorithms that can be peer reviewed, and also maybe give the users some control over which algorithm is applied and how. The problem with current social algorithms is they operate in the dark and are manipulative, not that they provide relevant content to users.

That, and it’s arguable primary purpose is to serve ads. “People similar to you clicked on these ads” type shit. And I get it to a point, platforms need to support themselves, and unless it’s a paid app, that doesn’t keep servers running. But it’d be nice to just get one every 10 minutes, and not every 10 seconds, and also to opt out of tracking for served ads instead of just random ones.

With the Tiktok ban I think marketing it prematurely has been a good thing and introduced a number of people from that world into the fediverse.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from alekwithak@lemmy.world
Well Microsoft has been doing it for 30 years.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from neon_nova@lemmy.dbzer0.com
Because it’s brand new and will eventually federate. The developer is deep in the fediverse so 100% it will
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from Ulrich@feddit.org
But right now it doesn’t…
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from kat@orbi.camp
It’s really not a technicality to get worked up about.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from Ulrich@feddit.org
I disagree. Anybody that joins Loops right now is forced to the one instance. That’s not federation. That’s not an issue for you. Which is valid. But you don’t get to police those who don’t share your view.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from kat@orbi.camp
Nobody is “policing” anyone, I just don’t think it’s a valid argument.

They’ve done federation on a few test posts, but it’s definitely not there yet for normal users to use.

What’s the most “mainstream” peertube instance? All I’ve seen is niche gaming stuff. Is there an instance that is more of a youtube replacement?
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from remer@lemmy.world
tilvids probably. For the most mainstream general instance? Probably none. But freediverse, spectra and WTF are probably the best for it (imho ofc)
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from fxomt@lemm.ee
Thanks mate! I haven't quite figured out how to use PeerTube yet, but I was able to join Freediverse now.

no problem :) enjoy it, youll have access to most content with that instance!

Peertube.wtf is back!

Really? I just installed it and all I see is news in French. When I try to add more “platforms”, it tells me that I need to choose a platform first, but doesn’t give me any options. It’s like it just expects me to figure that out on my own. Very unintitive.

Am I the only one who is bothered by this pic. It looks so fake and photoshopped.
Maybe it’s because my phone has weird contrast settings for accessibility.
Obviously I think whoever made this pic has great intentions and it’ll definitely be good enough for an article banner or something which is what it’s most likely to be used for.

Nah I’m not gonna dunk on her effort. I’m glad she made it. Don’t wanna be a downer to her.
But it just looks off to me.

If you have constructive feedback, it seems like the photographer is open to it. It’s not dunking on anyone to say “hey great work and cool idea, just so you know the image looks a little “off” on my screen, possibly due to my accessibility settings, which are blah blah blah… hope this helps, thanks for the great work!”

A federated tiktok alternative by the same guy who made Pixelfed. You can find the app on testflight.
It’s not actually federated yet, not even open source. It’s promising but Dan gets himself into a lot of controversy :/
It doesn’t even have a web ui yet, but it’s pretty much finished (atleast from dans mastodon teasers). We only have to wait a couple of weeks or a month for it (i estimate at least)
Don’t get my negative comment wrong tho, i’m still excited for it, just disappointed so far from dan’s handling of it.
Here’s the website: loops.video

After reading through this, it wouldn’t surprise me if he turned out to be a Russian operative. In particular a Slovakian, no hate to Slavs but he just strikes me as one ya know?
It all just reads like a disgruntled federal operative letting the popularity get to their head.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from NudeNewt@lemm.ee
Does he have an ego? Definitely. But i’m not sure where you got russian operative from though. I’m not sure what russia would want to do with a buggy federated tiktok alternative/instagram app.
He also made pixelfed as i said, and it’s open source so so far i haven’t heard any backdoors inside it. Loops is a black box though.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from fxomt@lemm.ee
It would seem I forgot to add the /s
In any case, I’m simply disappointed in his choices for not open sourcing software that would undoubtedly march on in terms of progress at light speed if fully FOSS.
I hope he learns to hone his ego, it’s within and without. I just hope he comes to his senses and begins to work with devs who are desperate to get a peak at the closed source portions of his sofware. - By open sourcing any blackboxed software.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from NudeNewt@lemm.ee
Ohhhh 🤦♂️Sorry. I agree, I hope he betters himself and make loops OSS. Currently he’s pretty controversial but hopefully he turns around before it’s too late.
