Monday morning. Too much news. Went to bed to someone standing up to the Bully-in-Chief, but seem to have backed down. Gutted.

Hah, so here's a thing. Thought "ah, someone's going to tell me off for using the BBC for news" (with some justification tbf) so popped up to the Guardian (also problematic I know) & found some GOOD NEWS.

Genuinely think this is a great move forward, & the more companies that do it (& do it properly, not 4 really long days, but reduced hours, same pay) the more likely we are to move that way & IMO more free time is a huge boost to health & happiness.

@eclectech oh that is good 😁 I am in one of those places that allow four day week but in the four longer days so I can retain a similar pay to what I had when I was on five days (still paid less though).

I can't imagine how I'd ever cope with returning to a five days week (or how I even managed doing it before!). I get so much more rest and headspace. I'm a huge advocate for a four day week (with normal hours and full time pay).

@allysseriordan I got quite annoyed when the Government started talking about a 4 day week and it turned out that it was the same number of hours. Appreciate it can be a lot better than a standard 5 day week but the evidence for reduced hours / same pay is pretty strong and it's such a positive move.

@eclectech so much. There is such a massive misunderstanding on how working more is not working better. There are also a lot of misgivings about rest. It's like we're not allowed to do it.

So many times in the office, I've wanted to take a walk or just sit out for a bit to clear my head. I can't and yet it would make me so much more productive. After certain tasks, my brain goes mush and needs a reset but somehow that rest is perceived as bad.

@allysseriordan Oh yes. Self determination in the workplace FTW.

I'm lucky and work to deadlines rather than specific times, so as long as they stay reasonable I can have a day where everything is coming together and I do a lot, and others where my brain just goes "nah" and I just leave it.

And there's days like today where someone could stand over me and shout BE CREATIVE DAMMIT and it's just not gonna happen, so I'm getting admin done instead.

@eclectech this sounds like a great way to work.

It so wouldn't work where I am. Most deadline are set in the past when I receive them 😆

@allysseriordan Hahaha! I have had clients like that (had a couple of years like it that nearly broke me back in the day), but seem to have got to a point where everyone I'm working with regularly is sensible. It's made a BIG difference.
