The NSW government is reviewing country coach routes and timetables.
Public consultation is open until Friday 14 February 2025, with changes coming in 2026.

Personally, I would want to see the slowest sections of the Sydney to Melbourne train line upgraded to be a 6 hour trip, as suggested by Philip Laird.
I would increase frequencies to be at least one service every 30 minutes.
And then I'd run half hourly coach services that connect with the train.

Here's an example of the types of changes the NSW government is proposing:

Having a new twice-weekly coach service to Yass Junction will be great for the people of Young.
But this proposal doesn't go nearly far enough.
Imagine a town like Young getting a half hourly coach connecting it to a half hourly faster train to Sydney and Melbourne.
That should be the next step.
