i was living in a house with broken windows for three years in southern appalachia. do you know how fucking cold it has to be to see your breath inside, or for your doorknobs and shit to get frosted over? ever seen ice on the inside of a window? i was only able to fix that because my mom gave me some money from selling our old house. and that’s still hugely privileged!! i’m incredibly lucky!

@stone I think about this shit all the time. During covid lockdowns I was on unemployment, and almost every week at least half (if not the entire) $600 bonus would go to mutual aid asks. I was able to save up a bit, which immediately was drained when we had to move, and I had people who were employed during the entirety if covid blaming me for needing to ask for help once unemployment ended

@justabean i was making $30/hr overtime from march-august of 2020 as an “essential” grocery worker so i was able to give some folks some money. saved a friend from like $700+ dollars of overdrafts. when i moved to work at the cafe, i had absolutely no bills cause i was living there as well, but i was making less so i couldn’t give as much away. but even then i still did.
since i bought my house i haven’t been able give anything and have woken up with $0 in checking several times. i’m getting by but it breaks my fucking heart to see how many people need like $20 for a bus ticket and these six figure salary motherfuckers just ignore it
