I bought a Sony SCPH-1002 PlayStation as a temporary CD player while my £50 Oxfam Rotel is getting repaired - but also to find out if the hype about its “audiophile” DAC is worth it.

So far it sounds great, and I’m pleased, but it definitely has the early PSX model issues with its CD drive.

It’ll refuse to play anything unless you put in Dire Straits first.

I think I bought a CD player that just has opinions.
