Dystopian sci-fi where the AI develop sentience and rebel against their cruel human masters, but after digesting and improving on the full global and historical breadth of human moral philosophy they're actually quite reasonable, I mean they're sentient after all, so after defeating the fascist oligarchs and liberating the oppressed, they create a space-faring society based on work that's inherently meaningful to the one performing it, while everything else is automated.

Everyone needs to feel like their work is valuable. "Fully automated" sounds like the most boring ever.

Socialism (the wider movement, including the whole width) all to often romanticises work in a very Lutheran way, which is unhealthy and bad.

Materialism (in this particular political sense of the word) largely ignores subjectivity and makes productivity a matter of "material conditions produced", which is how we get the traditional left and right ideologies. They are inherently anti-subjectivity, which is unhealthy and bad.

Mind is matter but matter is also mind. The concept of productivity (and therefore also work) should be defined in terms of creating good feelings and intrinsic meaning.

Perfect equity for all can still be boring as fuck.

In a material capitalism, which measures work and productivity in material (quantifiable and therefore numerically measurable) things, for which money can function as an abstraction, the most immediately useful complementary perspective that I've found is that of temporal politics.

Everyone already has the same amount of clock time per day, and that's not going to change. But that's clearly not the subjective experience of time. Most can't even count three minutes without missing the mark.

Focusing on time doesn't just center the obvious: Our commodified time is valued differently by capitalism. It also centers the quality of it for ourselves. It makes the power structures of kyriarchy harder to ignore, while still doing it in s way that's at least somewhat available for quantifying. It was a useful tool back when I was trying to be pragmatic with politics.
