All the world's a diner, and the #BrokenTimes is merely its stenographer, giving fascist followers space (and portraits) to spew their fears, hate, lies, and ignorance without challenge. This is not journalism; it is complicity.

During the Trump interregnum, the #BrokenTimes went to find fascists in diners because we were told we had to hear the losers. Now we are told to listen to the winners. How about taking a subway ride to Brooklyn or the UWS to listen to the rest of us. How about a little bothsidesing, NYT?

@jeffjarvis I switched my attention many years ago from the NYT to WaPo, but after seeing the owner of the WaPo sitting in the front row at the inauguration, I don't know where to turn.

@EricFielding @jeffjarvis I scrounge bits and pieces from my local paper (which does use some NYT stuff, alas), The Guardian, ProPublica, Common Dreams, The Nation, The New Republic, The Progressive, etc., and of course links ppl share on here. There is no "newspaper of record" anymore. It's dead.

@BruceMirken @EricFielding It's also really good to support your local indie media tho they won't be breaking national news ofc. Where we are: Cal Matters, LA Taco, LAist, LA Public Press, Knock LA, Capital and Main. I quit subscribing to national papers awhile ago and I feel bad about that on the one hand because I do feel really strongly about supporting media, but I also think my $ goes further at local/indie level & the bigger orgs have more support already

@inquiline @EricFielding Yes. Here in Hawaii there isn't much, alas. Honolulu Civil Beat is good for state coverage, but that's basically all. The newspapers here have pretty much all been bought by evil, cost-cutting corporate chains. I do write occasional for a lefty San Francisco indy site called 48 Hills, which does some cool stuff. They all need to be supported.

@BruceMirken @inquiline I have been subscribed to The Guardian for several years. They have greatly expanded their coverage of the USA news, presumably because a lot of their subscribers are in the USA. Since I work as a contractor for federal agency, I was getting a free subscription to WaPo for many years that they gave to those with ".gov" email addresses. They ended that program in November 2024. Maybe I don't need the play-by-play coverage of Washington DC news as it is only depressing now
