It all started Thursday.

After my in-laws posted the story about that young journalist getting fired for posting a criticism of the fascists on her personal social media, my husband posted som nazi-punchung GIFs in solidarity and said he's not going to be silenced or capitulate to the fascists. His father said he's going to keep his opinions on the DL. My husband retorted that his grandmother (FIL's mother) didn't keep her hatred of Nazis to herself.

FIL started cryptically talking about how there are more ways to fight (not listing them), and how age has wisdom, basically claiming that he's smarter and better than his son. My husband stopped replying, because he's peeved that his father is, in his eyes, a fucking coward.

Fast-forward to yesterday, when my husband posted a final message on Facebook, saying he's leaving the fascist platform and adding a whole bunch of GIFs/videos of Nazis getting punched for good measure. He's gotten a lot of people asking where he's going - I think he's decided to come here! ❀

This morning, his mom started texting him, asking if he's getting rid of Whatsapp too, because she wants to be able to communicate with the whole family, including the part that's in Argentina. My husband said that he wasn't planning on it right away, but he suggested that they consider, as a family, moving to a new platform if possible.

MIL starts talking about how Facebook is the default way that she keeps in touch with family and her friends in her art group. She says she uses it as a utility, just like electricity and water, even though they're all real problematic. She also tells him that getting blindly angry isn't going to solve our fascist problems. When my husband explains to her that he's not getting angry over nothing, and that the least we can all do is not support the techno-fascists who are going to be aiding in the deaths of our fellow Americans, MIL dead-ass says "People die every day."

So, my husband is IMMEDIATELY infuriated. He was actually talking to her on the phone at this point and hangs up. He then ignores her next call and blocks her, his father, and his sister. I ignore the call I get from MIL too.

I've literally never seen him this angry. He's shaking, pacing, asking over and over how it's gotten to the point where we are not willing to do the bare minimum to not support a bunch of fascists murdering the vulnerable through government policy and the corporate shit-gibbons that aid them. He's especially pissed that his own family is comfortable ignoring at all for their own convenience.

Didn't think I'd start the morning cutting off half the family, but here we are...
