Trump fired 17 independent auditors at agencies late night, in violation of federal law.

Presumably Rep. Gerry Connolly, chair of Oversight Dems, is on a rapid response tear right now and has already fired off a video message to voters in the districts of his GOP Oversight colleagues explaining gov't waste...

Maybe 74-year-old cancer patient Gerry Connolly shouldn't be in charge of Oversight's response!

He owes his chair to the caucus rules kept in place by Nancy Pelosi.

Under her leadership, House Dems would not even release the rules by which their secretive Steering and Policy Committee operates.

There's no social media video out yet from Oversight Dems, he isn't showing his face.

Connolly's X account and the committee's has a statement on the firings, and his Instagram account has the same statement (but not Oversight's).

Nothing on YouTube, nothing on Facebook. No idea if House Dems comms had anything prepared for TikTok.

Last month, House Democrats voted 131-84 in a secret ballot to elect the 74-year old Gerry Connolly, with terminal esophageal cancer, over AOC for Oversight chair.

Is Connolly capable of holding a smartphone, having an aide log him into IG Live, and explaining to independent voters the stakes? He hasn't exactly been front and center in the media, much less on digital social media.

For example, IG Reels is one of the places where Dems could have had video ready when Trump suddenly fired independent officials, in violation of federal law.

It might have been an appearance with a trusted public official in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, city in the #KY01 district of GOP Oversight Committee Chair James Comer. It could have been creative.

But no video there. Nothing to compellingly explain the impact of Trump firing independent watchdogs in federal agencies.
