@TidalFlats Does the ice there ever get thick enough for dogs or people to walk on?

Very infrequently here, but I still wouldn't trust it ( a shame, it's perfect flat skating ice).

In the great deep freeze of 1977 the creeks, rivers and the Bay was solid ice. Waterman's boats ice locked & couldn't go oystering, so a gang of them came up with a clever plan...

Chainsawed a path over an oyster bed,(just down the creek from here) dropped a bottom trawl, attached a length of cable and - not kidding - pulled it with a 62 Ford Falcon on the ice.

Safety First, though. They cut the roof off in case they had to abandon Ford in a hurry ( which, eventually, they did).
