Maybe the US forfeiting the EV market to China will be good for transportation & land use policy in the long run? If US automakers collapse and oil loses its salience in the economy because transport electrifies, will organized motordom still have the same kind of power?
It will suck for autoworkers and the US trade balance though.

@ZaneSelvans or US will be like Cuba driving the same old gas guzzling cars for many many decades while the rest of the world moves on to other solutions.
China is doing better with EVs partly because they are choosing to use sodium-ion batteries which are cheaper, more environmentally friendly, not toxic rare materials like lithium, but readily accessible resources…and partly because they are choosing to make small cars that are very affordable & also accessible.
