This is how geologists collect lava samples from an active volcano.

Chemical analysis of lava provides important information about activity deep inside a volcano's magma chambers.

@wonderofscience I used to want to do that when I was a child; so much so I got in trouble for always drawing pictures of volcanoes. Pity we have to grow up.

@lilov @wonderofscience Now you mention it, the most fun I had with DIY was putting a hot felt roof on a garage and I had to use a torch to melt it in place. Proper work!
