@iandebay and I’d argue what underlies that bad design is the, almost explicit, requirement that you are financially mandated into car ownership. Car ownership requirements to have any quality of life, at a minimum, is one of the primary drivers of life being unaffordable

It's the thing I hate most about our infrastructure here in #OklahomaCity. Public transportation is sketchy, so owning a car is a must. (There are attempts underway to change this, but it's s-l-l-l-o-o-o-o-o-w-w-w.)
