Bands have a moral obligation to share their pre-show, intermission, and post-show playlists. There, I said it.

Back in the good old days music students would be up front with scores on their laps!

Today:

Let's do…

we played that first set.

OK, then…

we opened this set with that.

Very often we don't know either. #MayIp would make playlists we'd rehearse, then not play any of them onstage. #SunRa did the same and called out (conduction) arrangement swaps on the fly. Nolan often emails a new #iReal between sets.

What comes next often depends on the audience.

@teledyn I’m thinking of the music bands select by other acts to play on the speakers before they take the stage, and after they leave. Which we have Shazam for, but it’s still embarrassing to not know what a song is. Give me a playlist so I can listen to it on headphones later!

Drom's DJ likely spins what feels right, elsewhere who knows. I was at a show put on by The Two Gary's and Gary Topp was delighted when I asked, because sure enough, it would be yet another obscurity soon to be ubiquitous.

I'd think asking a better conversation starter than asking shazam, but that's just me πŸ˜…

When I had my radio shows, I stopped introducing unless there was a story. If they wanted to know, they'd call or write, so I played more music instead of me yammering.

@teledyn This was the reason I never learned the names of songs or bands. Things just play and I enjoy them, but if it never comes up on my list again, I'd never know what it was.

@mayintoronto @sillygwailo

Two reasons I use random play is so things do come up that I don't recall, and there is then an immediacy to say drop everything and listen now, because it may not come back for a long time.

Some favourites also have names like ζΌ‚ζ΅·ι·‚ιš as if I'm going to request that? πŸ˜…

Their simple solution is what I've done with radio teledyn for years: scrobble it!
