I got a nice reminder of "Hawaiian time" today.
An important aspect of Hawai'i culture is "Hawaiian time," which basically means having healthier priorities than mainstream consumerism. Placing greater focus on family, community, Earth, health, and happiness than on superficial capitalistic metrics like "response time." This is partly Hawai'i culture, and also partly s simple fact of life when living on an island with limited resources.

@Hawaii Labor also was very different in pre-colonial times. Native Hawaiians sustained themselves rather than needing an exploited work force to survive. No sense of urgency needed in this case.
I think this is where "Island time" comes from. https://www.hawaii.edu/uhwo/clear/home/HawaiiLaborHistory.html#:~:text=Native%20Hawaiians%2C%20who%20had%20been,of%20these%20first%20Hawaiian%20laborers
