@dillyd

Gonna ask a silly question: why didn't you actually hashtag those suggestions?

Am I missing something?

@colhill because I didn't want to spam the hashtags. If somebody follows the hashtag, they're probably looking for the actual content, not just me listing them for somebody else. I use one or more of them when I post my own mushroom photos.

@dillyd @colhill This is good practice for public posts! :) When you post on "Quiet public" (formerly known as "Unlisted"), you can actually include the # (which leaves the tag clickable). The post itself won't show up in the tag feed.

The info abt this hiding in the little "(i)" info box in the post privacy selector (at least in the web UI, I don't know how the apps handle this).

Sorry for this unsolicited InfoBot intrusion. 🌼

@herzleid @colhill

true, thanks for the reminder. I usually remember not to bother with hashtags in unlisted posts, since people won't see them. I forgot the corollary, that it's ok to use them, since people won't see them.

@dillyd Right? Sort of the opposite for me: I don't use a lot of hashtags, and I have Quiet public as default, so I always need to remember to switch when I want the tags to actually work. 🙃

@herzleid exactly. My replies are also quiet public by default and I have to remember to change them in the right contexts
