@emenel Surprised you're caving so quickly ha, not that I don't understand. It's almost like you have to lean into the isolation to some degree and just accept it.

@emenel Understand that too, even if I'm not a professional musician, attempting to share what I'm passionate about seems increasingly difficult without some of this kind of compromise.

@sellanraa yeah. and my life is full of compromises. instagram was always a big compromise, it's just shifted way over the line now.

@emenel Yeah, I'm not blowing my account up, but I'm just no longer posting like I had been. No likes, etc. Just the rare self-promo. If it's just a business, then I'll try to reduce it to treating it as a tool for that and not my personal life. So instead of a couple posts a month and a story every day or so, it'll be a few posts a year and maybe a story to of the post to accompany the post just for folks who use stories. But yeah, I think a drastic reduction is in order, for sure. If not outright deletion in time. We've talked about this for a long time, but until more people are willing to stop using it, and they just don't seem to be able to, the needle won't move with a tiny fraction resisting. It will take a collective action on a scale that gets their attention. Not a handful of art weirdos resisting ha. Not to say we shouldn't!

@sellanraa @emenel It's really difficult. I've stopped posting to Twitter, have locked and archived my account, and not looking there either, but, so much content that I rely on for work is there, lots of links to good posts or accounts etc. and it's just so much easier to be logged it, bookmark etc.

@jules_rawlinson @emenel Everything in this last 20 years has been constructed to move us in this direction and we, for the most part, have gone along with it willingly. How do we possibly work to reverse it now? Quite a pickle now that we're all somewhat reliant on it. 😩

@sellanraa @jules_rawlinson tbh places like this give me hope. They’re hugely imperfect and flawed, but it feels like a step towards escaping the corporate capture of online sociality/community.
