“The City of Delta said it put up the fence after a Tsawwassen senior died when he went for a walk and it was later realized that he had crossed into Point Roberts.

“The fence at the end of English Bluff Road was installed by the City of Delta at the request of Delta Police following their review into a Delta senior who walked across the border and died in Point Roberts,” the city said in a statement.”

@Crispius I'm confused how putting up the fence would "improve community safety" - is there some particular hazard on the US side that the elder died of on his walk? From the info in the article I would guess he died of something that could as easily have happened on the Canadian side, but the fact it happened on the part of his walk that was in the US created administrative complication. In which case it only improves safety from paperwork.

@dragonfrog

I can see some logic in this, in that when looking for a missing person, mounting a search and rescue the process becomes infinitely more complicated when you need involve international partners (you can’t just send teams/dogs into another country). In this context a fence seems like a pretty simple solution.

The reason I posted this is I was watching #GlobalTV TV this morning and I saw this piece twice and it was still unclear to me why the fence was there or who put it up. I guess I could have been clearer on this bit.
