Why did the EU create the whole useless GDPR bullshit at all, when those laws are not enforced anywhere in practice, not even in the public sector?

Why do we allow public transit vendors to force dysfunctional proprietary smartphone apps riddled with illegal trackers down the throats of paying customers?

Why do we allow them to break their websites on purpose for normal web browsers instead of replacing their C suite with non-assholes?

Also, why is public transport in Belgium run by such complete and utter idiots? The whole thing is a fractal of such outlandish, off the charts stupidity and silliness that it makes you think you're in a Monty Python sketch whilst actually trying to throw money at these people to buy a fucking ticket.

I want to buy a few "BruPass" day passes to be able to travel around brussels when visiting the city in the near future.

For a start, the public transit website "belgiantrain.be" kept throwing fake error pages at me when using normal desktop browsers, and I had to fake a smartphone user agent and screen size to get around this shit.

But even then, the page for creating an account still didn't work and directed me to use SNCB's smartphone app.

So eventually, I installed their app on phone, and registered an account. But even then, their shitty website still won't allow me to login into my own account in a normal browser, and instead forces me to do everything by smartphone.

Inside the app, I couldn't by anything at first - if I selected a ticket for purchase, I wasn't offered any payment method. The latter didn't really surprise me since my smartphone runs a degoogled variety of Google.

However, their website claims that one of the payment methods they accept is Paypal, so I installed the Paypal app on my smartphone, but even this wouldn't make the Paypal payment option appear inside the SNCB app.

Eventually, after endless fiddling, I ended up on some website that claimed that I need to upload a fucking photo of my ID card or passport before I can make any purchases through my new SNCB account. So I begrudgingly uploaded such a photo.

After a while and multiple restarts of the SNCB app, the app did eventually offer me payment options. Next challenge: I wanted BruPass day passes to be on the safe side, because the idiots running public transit in Belgium can't be bothered to publish consistent, easy to find information about what precisely they consider a "journey" for their "10 journey BruPass" tickets. However, the app only offers 1 or 10 journey BruPasses, but no "1 day" BruPasses.

Eventually, I came across PDFs in French and Dutch that explain that what the idiots running Belgian public transit call "journey" on most of their websites is actually "one hour during which you can do as many journeys and use as many trains, buses and metros as you like within the BruPass validity area".

Why not call it "10x 1 hour BruPass" then?!

@thegcat @srslypascal 1 day passes you can only get on MoBIB if remembered correct.

10 journeys is 10 1h journeys with in the 1h unlimited changes between operators and inner operators.

Not too familiar with digital ticketing as I always use my MoBIB card

@maartje @thegcat

Ahhh, thx :)

Do you know if it's possible to get a personalized MoBIB card "instantly" (and ideally also on Saturdays) at some counter? Or does it take a few days to produce and ship the card because of the personal data and the photo they print onto the card?

@srslypascal @thegcat SNCB ticket office, they won't let you in until you say you need a MoBIB (staff has orders to send people to the machines) so don't be scared. Give them a government ID and they will instantly issue one.
