A couple of accessibility folks I know are looking at this “DEIA” ban and sputtering, “but that’s not legal! Accessibility is the law!”

THAT’S NOT THE POINT. Tons of this stuff is illegal. In a functioning democracy, this would all get knocked down.

@mattmay I feel like people don’t know that there is no enforcement mechanism for the ADA. It may be the law, but abled people do not care.

@Ashedryden Bingo. Individuals can still bring suits under ADA in the absence of the feds (by design!), but the Civil Rights Division is now entirely likely to file amicus briefs against them.

One of the side effects of coming to rely on laws and policies for ~35 years is that we are utterly unprepared for the agencies who’ve been responsible for enforcement to tell us to eat shit. It’s like being threatened by an invasive species.
