I think IN GENERAL, people tend to overlook the whole concept of infiltration.
Let's pretend there was a social media platform that almost everybody & their grandma uses.
Now let's pretend that platform makes some business deals with the sitting president.
There are people working for this platform from both sides.
Pretty easy for opposing party employee to silently make some crazy changes that make the platform seem more sinister.

This also works for small groups that organize to do, for lack of a better term, the right thing. They're heading in the right direction, then next time you notice them, somehow they've not only done some weird 180°, but they've gone off the deep end of not just conspiracy theory, which is not the insult you think it is, but seriously mentally unstable extreme conspiracy theory, the kind that is an insult. After a few weeks of headlines, you've magically forgotten about their good faith start.
