Toot

Something I do not enjoy and frequently feel surprised by is how territorial people in software can be about different software topics and how fiercely these things are argued as social norms. Oh, so-and-so wrote a blogpost about this? Ok?? I'm supposed to be intimidated by that and always bow to and cite somebody's extremely contemptuous-toned blogpost? Get outta here

I'll do my best to engage with and respectfully listen to grey literature but not in this Control The Narrative way

@grimalkina Elaborate sneering delivered via blogpost has been the peacock-plumage strutting of the free software world forever. I've been guilty of it myself. Looking over some of my old blog post is so embarrassing.

@grimalkina Somewhat off topic, but I had never heard the term "grey literature" before and I am so happy to have this phrase to reach for now!!

@simonpcouch yeah it's a little bit of an academic term (ironically) but I like that it acknowledges the far ranging impact and "canon" quality of this in an industry!
