Due to recent topics and weather, I'm going to go ahead and mention the wonderful substance known as brown fat.
It's fairly elusive in what all of it does, but the main thing is that it's great for keeping you warm in cold environments because of how it aids metabolism and thermogenesis.
We lose most of it as babies (babies don't really shiver for temperature reasons unless they've burned up their BAT as a fun tidbit) but studies show exposure to cold along with exercise converts white fat to brown fat. Thus over time, the cold stops biting so hard.
