There's an old comedy trope of someone asking a line of people for volunteers for dangerous or onerous work. And most people in the line step back, making those who did not the sudden "volunteers".
There's more safety in numbers. Don't back off and make someone else the volunteer.
As much as fear you feel may want to keep you from being vocal and active, staying quiet right now will only make it harder to protest later.
So stay vocal & active. Support each other instead of stepping back.

Remember how institutions rushed to make apologies and institute (performative, it turns out) DEI policies in 2020 when people were in their faces and on the streets in numbers?
They're yanking that stuff back because they've been chipping away at us, distracting us, making us fear and stay quiet and isolated from each other.
There's safety in numbers AND it's more effective.
We need to make THEM scared. #USpol
