Annoyed by iTerm2* having 5 tabs "Mark's Atari Shell"** and 2 "Mark's Evil Lisp"***, I finally did minimal research and added to .zshrc:

@mdhughes so weird q: it seemed like back in the day, iterm2 was cool because tabs. Fast foreard a few OS versions and tabs everywhere… what makes it so compelling?

@octothorpe prompt marking/jumping is essential, and only Terminal and iTerm2 do it. iTerm2 has automatic profile switching based on dir, triggers so you can automate things. It's a really powerful chainsaw.
