Toot

My darn CSR is still not re-licensed, and I got the new phone on Friday. I’m seriously getting irritated here. My irritation, before anyone comes after me, is with the fact that I have to depend on this person to do this for me and can’t just login with a portal and fix it myself. If I could, I would’ve had it licensed as soon as I had the user ID for the new phone. This having to rely on one single person to fix the license is a total load of bullshit.

@evilcookies98 Why do you have to rely on a single person to do it? I didn't know this.

@simon because there’s no automatic licensing anything.

@simon right? I’ve got about five months left on this license and because it’s not been transferred to my new phone, it could end up being wasted, which royally pisses me off.

@evilcookies98 You shouldn't have to transfer a license at all, IMO. This is giving me flashbacks to the Talks/MobileSpeak days. I think one of them tied the screen reader license to your phone number and if you changed your number at any point, you had to pay them $100 or something.

I have a ton of Android devices for testing and various use cases. I'm not going to sit around while someone manually transfers licenses between them.

@simon right? Basically, when you install the program on your phone, you get a user ID and the license is tied to that user ID, which is different from device to device. Get a new phone, have to go through this bullshit. More than one device, guess you’re just paying for two licenses if you want to use it on both.

@evilcookies98 Yeah that is absolutely unacceptable. I don't pay for software that dictates which devices I'm allowed to use it on. If it did the JAWS thing and allowed me to download it on three devices and revoke licenses myself, sure. Not this, though. Manual license generations and device-specific licenses is basically the perfect storm of "no fucking thank you."

@simon if it weren’t for a couple of features, I don’t know that I would be dealing with it. There’s nothing else that will let me fix my own BitLife and apparently they’re too dim to enable the accessibility plug-in automatically if it detects you have a screen reader on.

@simon if the accessibility plug-in in BitLife is not enabled you can’t do squat and you have to get somebody else to fix it for you. CSR has this virtual screen thing that will allow you to basically OCR the whole screen and navigate to the place where you fix it, and then you restart the game and you can turn off your screen reader and play it with the accessibility plug-in.

@evilcookies98 Admittedly it's really cool that CSR has that feature. I assume that's only in the paid version. iOS has had that natively for three years now, so I really hope Google figures out how to do that. They're halfway there with Talkback recognition, but if the controls are completely unfocusable you still can't get to them.

@simon @evilcookies98 Wouldn't matter because more games than not use in app screen readers and require you to turn off talkback to use them.

@evilcookies98 @simon Oh yeah regardless the plug-in should activate itself, #Dawncaster does that, activates its screen reader when it detects #Talkback running and asks you to toggle that off to continue.

@dhamlinmusic @simon I agree that it totally should. The fact that it doesn’t is irritating. I got a new phone and my stupid CSR is still not licensed, so guess who isn’t playing BitLife anytime soon. I sent an email Saturday night and nothing has been done. I would’ve sent it Friday, but I didn’t get the phone until the middle of the day and spent the rest of the afternoon fixing everything else.

@evilcookies98 @dhamlinmusic This is one instance where I fully support software piracy. Has anyone reverse-engineered the license system yet? If you paid for a product, you have a right to use that product, so crack it and be happy. I used to do this with JAWS when FS was more gatekeepy about renewing authorizations. I still do that with Eloquence for NVDA.

@dhamlinmusic @simon there’s a version on blind help but it’s kind of out of date. There’s some combination of the android 16 developer preview and the latest CSR beta that has fixed the voice typing/assistant/Gemini thing.
