I hope the firms are sufficiently grateful that they send a little present along to HMRC as a thank you: Rachel and her team in accounts need some recognition and reward for all the hard work she's put in on their behalf.

Maybe a bottle of prosecco, a card and some cake from Aldi? Or is the cake too much?

Tell you what wouldn't cause any harm to the economy at all: thirty billion quid injected towards the bottom end which will mostly go into general circulation, generating tax revenue at every step.
