Still looking for webmail with encryption, privacy, hosted in the EU or somewhere with similarly good enforcement.

Dumped Proton Mail, but need a replacement.

@meganL I've been a happy customer of Mailfence.com for years - privacy focused and based in Belgium.

@meganL E2EE or encrypted mail vault? Because on Simple Mail you can reach E2EE with OpenPGP and PEM (password protected e-mails to third parties that don't have PGP-enabled e-mail) or Mailfence. As for an encrypted mail vault (at rest), there's Tutanota and it can send E2EE e-mails too (though I haven't used Tuta, I'm pretty satisfied with SimpleMail). All are EU-based with servers hosted inside the EU.

@jt_rebelo Thank you. I'm afraid I'm not up on encryption tech so I'll have to read up on what the difference is to have an opinion.

@meganL E2EE is like having your snail mail in a box that only the person on the other side, the recipient, has a key to. An encrypted mail box is having your copies of the snail mail you sent and received inside a vault with a key only you have (what you had in Proton). Happy to help more if needed.

@awfulwoman @meganL I saw Tuta mentioned earlier in my timeline. I think they may have an account on the Fediverse so don’t know if a hashtag search on them will bring up any news of them or existing users that you may be able to ask?
