Maybe I'm incompetent, but...
What is the Signal feature equivalent to WhatsApp's Communities of chats? π€

@ellie I have never used Whatsapp, but if it is some sort of publically discoverable 'channel' that you can join, I don't think Signal has that. There is one-on-one and groups to which you can add people, but that's it afaik.

@ellie Oh, I see you can enable a link for a group, so you can share it for people to join (and toggle whether the join request should be approved or automatic). But I don't think there is a directory or search where you could go and find a community about paleolithic pottery patterns.

@ellie would the βgroup linkβ fill that need, which then may optionally still require group admins to approve the new arrivals?

@jochie I don't think so? The signal group doesn't appear to contain a plurality of chats/channels, only one.
Usecase: I am a member of a local community that creates a chat per event for coordination, like a hike or a boardgame night. And then members of the community can discover/join/leave/mute/ignore whatever chats they (don't) care about.
I can see maybe making a plurality of groups, each with their own invite posted in some central "Events" group, but that seems janky.

@ellie oh! TIL that that even existed in WhatsApp. So thatβs closer to a Discord server than a single group chat, I had no idea. If you do find an answer, please share/boost? π
