@msbellows Content Warnings are not for inappropriate content only. It's a warning that the post you made contains something that might heavily negatively impact someone just from reading it.

it's common fediverse/mastodon etiquette, (and stuff anyone should do on every public online place anyway) such as adding Alt Text to any media you post.

it's about inclusivity. if you don't properly use Content Warnings, you're ostracizing part of the community.

@yellow Ah, now I understand. I respectfully disagree, however. The Holocaust Museum was created by Jewish people to REMIND people that fascism is not over. The world is confronting the greatest threat since the 1930s; it's vital that people be kept aware and be given strategies to combat it.

@msbellows it may be hard to believe, but there exist countries in the world other than the USA, many of which are on this network with “uspol” on mute, as not everyone wants to be bombarded with discussion of the minutae of a country we are not involved with or have no power over. Especially patronising advice intended for citizens and residents of that country

@bri_seven I do understand that! What I'm struggling to understand is how far that goes. Someone somewhere has been traumatized by, I dunno, applesauce, but no one CWs applesauce, right? Or more seriously, people have been traumatized by fire, but I didn't see CWs on posts about the recent wildfires. SA or DV? I get it! #USpol? Understood! But should we CW all mentions of bad public figures themselves? Or maybe just hashtag so people can set their own filters? Again: I'm really asking.
