Filed under logically sound, but probably bad idea:
I decalcified my kettle.
There are still iron stains the vinegar didn't touch.
Vaguely remember tales of coca-cola dissolving nails.
Nails are made of iron.
...🤔
Should boil can of soda in my kettle.

@vlrny Probably a bad idea, but there's no way not to do it, now that the thought has occurred. Right?

@CakesOfPan Indeed! My only obstacle/salvation: I can't be arsed to go buy a coke.

If you ever have one available, you wouldn't have to boil it! Maybe try letting it sit overnight.

Back in the olden days, when cars had chrome fenders, Coke could be used to remove the inevitable rust spots on them. It didn’t dissolve the whole fender, obviously, just the spots of rust. Something about the carbonic acid in the soft drink, I think.

@qurlyjoe @CakesOfPan cool! Carbonic acid, that's probably it.

The thing is, though, carbonic acid isn’t just in Coca Cola. (If I understand correctly) it’s in all carbonated beverages. But in the south, all carbonated beverages are collectively called coke. (So I’m told.) So probably any fizzy pop would work, and you shouldn’t need to boil it.
(Full disclosure: this may all be just a load of crap triggered in my brain by what my wife calls testosterone poisoning, a major cause of mansplaining.)

@qurlyjoe @CakesOfPan haha no worries, it ain't mansplaining when invite folks on board my thought train.
Good thoughts too! If carbonic acid is in any carbonated beverage, I may legit try soaking a bit of club soda or something... 🤔
