@asterism got to separate out your burnable garbage from your PET bottles

In short Japan takes waste management very seriously.
No matter where you live, you definitely have trash, and you hopefully also have some sort of recycling system. But it may Just be that one bin for garbage, one bin for papers, plastic, and other theoretically recyclable material.
In Japan, at a minimum you have 2 types trash (burnable and non-burnable) in addition to it multiple categories of recycling (paper, plastic, PET, cans, newspaper, cardboard, etc). Depending on your local government, those distinctions may break down even more finely
Odds are, you won't have 20 different rubbish bins in your tiny Japanese flat, so youll have to sort your refuse when trash day comes along.
When's trash day? Great question. It depends. Every different category of trash is collected for disposal at a different time.
Like the calendar at left shows, you might only have PET and newspaper disposal every other week, and some collections (like for electronics) might only happen once a year.
Not only do you have to sort all of these different types of — waste, there's also often some pre-disposal labour involved. Caps on plastic bottles need to be removed. Bulk paper and newspaper often have to be bundled up. Your local government may require bags of waste to be put in special disposal bags or be labelled with special stickers.
The local nature of the trash collection might be the best part. if you move, odds are youre going to have to learn a new system. Tokyo alone has over 20 different district trash administrations
When Kurumi and Ruriko moved in together, it's not unlikely that they also had to learn a completely new schedule and set of trash rules. So we can cut Kurumi at least a little slack

honestly I'd probably never take out trash again, that sounds like a massive endeavor.
Just gonna become a raccoon.

This ones about Umaibo, which is a snack food made out of puffed corn. Which apparently has had a fixed price of 10 yen since like the 70s. So the size and composition of it constantly changes as the ingredients price changes.
