Hello people of Mastodon!! Sad on the circumstances of this #introduction and yet I am excited to be here and hope to make it a nice place to be.

I am a #photographer living in Puerto Rico.

Anyone interested in talking, learning, or have a specific geeky inquiry about photography, feel free to ask away. I have a wealth of knowledge that I am happy to share with you all.

Some random images of mine from work and my personal life. Hope you enjoy!

@danielmorrisphoto Welcome to Mastodon! Hope you find a home here whether it be on mastodon.social or another instance. 😊

I’ve been thinking about getting into photography but I’m not really sure where to start, so you popping up in my feed via a repost by @mike is an interesting coincidence. 😄

Do you have any suggestions on an entry level camera/lens that doesn’t break the bank?

@EighthLayer @danielmorrisphoto @mike I'd been using compact cameras for a while and got a cheapish 2nd hand Canon EOS from C-Ex.

It confirmed that the bulk was worth it for the images and I upgraded to a 6D2. Would probably go mirrorless now.....

@jschwa1 @EighthLayer @mike Most modern cameras today do an amazing job. Especially if you are shooting in RAW. For work I use a 5D MarkIV-the last one before it turned mirroless.

In life I use the Leica Q3 the most. I have the Type 116 first and love it as well, also have the Fuji X100-T and it still does wonders for a 2014 camera.

@EighthLayer

Honestly almost anything works these days to start the journey in my opinion. Don't underestimate today's latest phones either.

The thing you have to wrap your head around is that all your images should then be edited in some program to get them looking the way you want.

I am partial to Canon so any dsl with atleast 24MP with a zoom lens around 24-70mm would be amazing.

Anything specific that you are wanting to photograph?

@danielmorrisphoto That’s a fair point about the phones. I have an iPhone 13 Pro so I should probably learn how to effectively use that first before diving into the world of more advanced cameras. I’ll do some research on apps to use as I know the built-in camera app doesn’t take advantage of everything the phone camera can do.

I’m most likely to take photos of landscape, nature and architecture.
