Did you know that veg bases are quite alive and vibrant? I like to put them in water to root and sprout, and then transfer to a greenhouse bed to regrow. This is bok choy, cabbage, onion, and endive. #plants

@Foodecology i ws going to start my 4-H gardening project off with this exact same activity! I was going to bring in a few veggies for them to start, but then I want them to "discover" more veggies that will sprout with a little water. This are younger kids so I'll have to figure out how to handle fruit (don't want them to get too frustrated) but it will be a perfect introduction to stems, roots, seeds, etc. And of course it is so fun 😎

@carondolet Beautiful! I’ve done it with lettuce too, and I even have a multi head cabbage plant that’s sort of mongrel perennialized just right there in my greenhouse. Got the idea from a friend who kept it going with scallions in a pot for years.

@Foodecology The cabbage plant sounds kinda cool...and scallions would be perfect for a first veggie, the roots are right there for a nice discussion and of course, they are easy too.
