one time years ago i proposed on a forum of corporate devs that browsers should ask for user consent for every script a website wants to run, or every XHR it wants to make (i don't remember which) as a solution to the web's problems. and someone was like "noooo that would make modern websites impossible that load javascript from 70 different domains and phone home every second!" and like YES that's the fucking point? Force them to mak websites that don't suck
