@PaulaToThePeople how can I interact with Bluesky? That’s where the poasters are right now
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from drbrapp@mas.to
@drbrapp You need to follow @bsky.brid.gy@bsky.brid.gy if you can (it might be blocked on your server).
It might be slow right now, but it will automatically answer you with more info.

@PaulaToThePeople @drbrapp
Yep, that's pretty much it!
More details are here, if you're interested. It's also helpful to share the relevant section of these docs if you want someone on Bluesky to follow you.

@dusk @PaulaToThePeople so unless I’m missing something I can’t follow a Bluesky account unless they have chosen to bridge it?
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from drbrapp@mas.to
@drbrapp @PaulaToThePeople
That’s correct. that’s how this particular “bridge” software works, which is good opt-in #consent practice for software to follow.

@dusk @PaulaToThePeople I don’t get the ethical concern tbh. The AT firehose is public and there are other 3rd party Bluesky clients. How is this different?

@drbrapp @dusk This is the Fediverse.
We care about consent and don't want big centralized networks to push all their content here, without consent of their users or us.

@drbrapp @dusk @PaulaToThePeople To be honest the opt-in was much debated when the bridge was set up and, although the opt-in on the Fediverse side seems to match public opinion in the Fediverse (as best I understand it, anyway), I'm not as sure about the opt-in on the Bluesky side (where people generally have different expectations, or seem to).

@soaproot @drbrapp @dusk True.
But I think if it was changed to opt-out for bluesky, then many more Fediverse servers would block the bridge entirely, as they would be swamped with bsky content and couldn't handle the extra moderation load.
