Does anybody remember playing with Tonido in 2009-2017? It was a self hosted #NAS thing you could install on your computer. It gave you access to your files from anywhere. It installed on all OS (Win, Mac, Linux) and required no networking config. Downside was everything went through their servers of course.

...I don't recall exactly how it worked but it's probably fair to say it's a stretch to call it self hosting.

@teleclimber Hadn't heard of it but if your actual store is self-hosted, it probably qualifies as such... with the caveat you can't trust it of course.

The question is does the data transit their servers or just "matchmaking"? I've used file sync with a proprietary server component but it was just to make the connection, no personal data went to the servers.

@ocdtrekkie exactly. I recently wrote about what to consider when depending on a 3rd party as part of a self hosting setup:

Tonido might not have been appropriate for privacy, but I like their install anywhere + zero config approach.
