‘Democracy Dies Below The Fold’*

Jeff Bezos’ WaPo has a new mission statement, and boy howdy! Riveting Storytelling for All of America I’m glad that they are proclaiming that they are riveting, I wouldn’t have known. But I don’t know that I want storytelling, I’d rather have truth. Anyway, in yet ANOTHER self-serving move, Bezos is proclaiming that the WaPo will use AI, too…

@Tengrain Just stories now. We’ve arrived.

Truthiness and fair and balanced were already taken.

Storytelling. My nana says that to someone who’d lied about something, “You’re telling stories.”

@Tengrain Choice of words is important here. Storytelling. Not news. Not facts. Riveting storytelling. Like every issue of #WaPo will be like sitting down with a Danielle Steele novel. I’m cancelling my #WaPo subscription. The only thing I’m using it for anymore is book reviews and there are probably other options where I don’t have to pay to the ruling oligarchy.

@Thumper1964 @Tengrain I canceled The Washington Post and The New York Times. Just waiting for my year to expire. Where are we going for news?

@Flipboard is a really interesting option.

If you have an RSS reader that you like, you can follow the writers you like all in one place.

I think for hard news, the AP is pretty good. Just the facts, as they used to say on Dragnet.

@Thumper1964
