@arutaz @nixCraft while easy for most technical people, the vast majority of people either won't want to install it, nor know how (And before you say the webinstaller, most people I know don't even know what a file is.) i doubt apple and google will forcibly remove it from phones, though.

@nixCraft Could you not sideload it?

@nixCraft that last phrase: g&a having full control of my device? U sure? I’ve not heard this previously. I’ve had stuff lapse into unusable due to OS or library upgrades, but not them purging an app.

@nixCraft an interesting case of spycraft economics: is this TikTok ban worth burning the secret of such a capability?
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from InkomTech@infosec.exchange
@InkomTech @nixCraft In case of Google it's not a secret that they can delete apps on phones because they have done so as early as 2010: https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2010/06/exercising-our-remote-application.html
A more publicized use of this capability was in 2011 to remove a group of malicious apps: https://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2011/03/update-on-android-market-security.html

@nixCraft my hot take would be, if capability exists, the way to avoid admitting so would be to push platforms (g, a, and amazon) to some minor OS upgrade which, when installed, zonks the app.

@nixCraft no problem, we have open alternative @loops :catjam:

@nixCraft
I would block updates & TikTok IPs. No need to be too draconian.

@nixCraft The law only required no new users - ie removal from stores - initially. TikTok’s plan is to go dark anyway and direct users to a site which explains why and where to lobby. And they are also giving Trump the ego fondle he lives for so…. It’s a complete mess.

@nixCraft I am sure people will be unhappy.

@litanxiety@mastodon.social @nixCraft@mastodon.social It is already the case. some articles already report voice from tiktokers telling millions of peoples will be jobless due to this decision.
I won't tell more, i'm not here to argue against or aside that, just that peoples are already unhappy
