my son wants to build a gaming PC. He plays minecraft and valorant, plus a few steam games - nothing AAA or needing insane levels of frame rate etc... I know SFA about gaming computers. He has saved up about $1000. What are we buying for the main bits (CPU, GPU, power supply etc...)? Oh, and he already has a fancy mouse and keyboard.

@Kels_316 https://au.pcpartpicker.com is useful - it will tell you if your stuff is compatible (or might need a firmware upgrade to work etc). These days AMD is almost certainly what you want for a CPU. GPU is the tricky bit at that price range

@Kels_316 @Darius you might be able to upgrade an old PC too, that might save a few bucks if you're on a budget
