There's a really useful thing on here called a "Fediverse address".
All accounts on Mastodon, Pixelfed and other Fediverse platforms have a unique address:
@ username @ server name
If you paste an account's Fediverse address into the search box on Mastodon, Pixelfed etc, the account's profile page will appear, even if it never showed up in searches before! You can tell people your Fediverse address so they can follow you on here more easily.

@FediTips What I didn't understand was if you can have a subdomain. Let's assume my site is "foo .net" and I install a castopod instance which will sound as "podcast .foo .net". Could the podcast name be such as "@ footalks @ podcast .foo .net"? And, assuming the main blog is a WordPress and castopod points to /podcast/, is it mandatory to have a subdomain or it's just important to configure fediverse handle for podcast? (1/2)

WordPress is federated as @ network @ domain and I don't know if it would create a conflict, without subdomain. (2/2)

@talksina
Yes, you can use subdomains if you're hosting your own server.
You don't have to use subdomains, they are just convenient if you want to install several different platforms on a single domain. It saves money because you only have to pay for one domain name.
WordPress can be on a domain or subdomain if you're hosting an instance of WordPress yourself.

One must be careful. If you do not know the instance name, you may see accounts that are not the one you are looking for.
Of course, if you know the instance name, then it is not a problem in the first place.
Remembering everyones handle and instsnce off of the top of your head, is well, tricky.

@FediTips Great, thanks. Lots of accounts with 0 posts and 0 followers though. Nothing on sourdough , nothing on gluten-free. How do I get into that list? :)

None of them have 0 post or 0 followers. It's a manually curated list, I wouldn't be listing accounts if they weren't posting anything! π
You're possibly not seeing the posts on some accounts because no one from your server has followed it before, but if you follow it the posts will start showing up on your server too. More info at:

Message my other account @FediFollows if you want to be suggested for listing or if you want to suggest a topic.

@FediTips @FediFollows Thanks! Lots of things to learn about federated servers!

It is confusing! There are good reasons for it working like this, but it definitely needs to be improved so that it never looks blank at least. They could at least show the latest handful of posts or something.
(By the way, you can make sure your own profile never looks blank to anyone by pinning posts on it: https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-pin-my-posts-on-my-mastodon-profile)

@FediTips some accounts on Lemmy.ml seem to show the same for me as well; could that mean no one on this instance follows anyone from Lemmy?

If you ever see an account anywhere on the Fediverse with no posts even though you know it has posts, it's probably because you're the first to follow it from your server.
You can see its actual number of posts by going to its "original page", its profile on its own server:

@FediTips but does that hold true for other #Fediverse software (say Lemmy) too?
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from zstg@fedia.social
@zstg
It holds true for any Fediverse software, unless your server has some form of "backfilling".
(Backfilling means your server loads some or all of the posts from an account even if no one is following it.)
As far as I know the only Fediverse software with full backfilling is PeerTube, but it's a video platform so the number of posts tends to be much smaller than for text-based platforms.
